About us

Reverend Dominic Coad - Team Rector

Reverend Alison Rogers, Half Time Team Vicar

I studied with South West Ministry Training Course in Devon for ordination, and was made Deacon in 2019 and Priest in 2020. Originally trained as a  primary teacher, I ended up as an Environmental Education Officer in Rutland, and am still fascinated by British wildlife.  I’ve been married to Michael for over 45 years; we met at adjoining colleges in Canterbury.   It’s a good Christian principle – love thy neighbour!! (Michael is a retired  vicar, so I can’t say I didn’t know what I was letting myself in for.)

I spend half of my time serving in this group of parishes, and the other half as part of the Chaplaincy team at North Devon District Hospital.

Reverend Penny Lawson, Associate Priest

My name is Penny Lawson, married to Texan John. I am an Associate Priest in the Edgemoor Group of Parishes after being ordained in September 2016. I have a life full of ministry in the group, amongst friends and neighbours; raising a small flock of sheep (the woolly kind); and the joy of living on beautiful Exmoor

Canon Michael Rogers

I was ordained many years ago at the age of 23 and have spent my whole working life in parish ministry. For almost all that time I have been married to Alison (our Team Vicar) and we have two married daughters and six grandchildren who all live in the East Midlands and enjoy visiting ‘Grandma and Grandad near the seaside’! I am enjoying helping out in the Edgemoor Group during the current vacancy.

Richard Holloway, Reader

I’m a family man, having been married to Annabelle for twenty years, and we have two children, Heather and Matthew. We are based in the village of George Nympton near South Molton, sharing our home with two labradors, and a parrot. These days, I am a house husband, carer to my elderly mother, and also work part-time in a local school. Previously, I had a career in book publishing in and around London. Licensed Reader October 2016 to the Edgemoor Group of Parishes.

Mrs Frances Evans, Lay Assistant

Having been born and brought up in the Midlands, I attended college in Devon, and never went back! I married a farmer, and have two children and three grandchildren. When we left the farm I became a Sunday School teacher, and then in 2008 I started helping with services around the group. I lost my husband, Dennis, in 2009, but in 2014 was lucky enough to meet the lovely Dave, whom I married in April 2017.

Nicola Thorne – Licensed Lay Ministry Trainee
We are very pleased to announce that Nicola Thorne from the Edgemoor Group has
been selected to train for Licensed Lay Ministry (also called Reader ministry).
Nicola lives in Molland and is married to Robin. They have two grown up sons Will
and Josh. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends,
riding her horses, and running with her Sprocker Spaniel.
Nicola has completed the Foundation in Christian Ministry course and says she
thoroughly enjoyed it. She is actively involved in supporting the great team at St
Mary’s church, Molland, helping to lead lay services, acting as assistant
churchwarden and helping out where needed.
Nicola says she is looking forward to starting the course in September, although
perhaps not so much to all the essay writing! She is excited to be beginning this new
journey and helping within the Edgemoor Group when and where she can during and
after her training.
Rev Dominic Coad, the Team Rector, says, ‘I’m delighted that Nicola has been
selected for training. Licensed lay ministers are vital to the flourishing of the church,
especially in rural areas. I know that Nicola will be dedicated in her training and a fantastic addition to the Ministry Team once licensed.’
